In the high areas of Guarda and Castelo Branco, it may still snow this morning. Access to the Serra da Estrela tower remains closed. For tomorrow, a day of intense rain is expected and a slight increasethat of temperatures.
The highest area of Serra da Estrela has been closed for practically a week. After the intense snowfall, caused bythe two access sections to the tower remain closed, both for those going from Lagoa Comprida and those going via Penha da Saúde.
As it is not possible to climb the mountain, visitors improvise a track further down so as not to be left without fun. “My cousins came from Brazil and we all got together. It was very difficult to get here, but this is beautiful, it was so worth it”, says one of the visitors.
But, if the closed access didn’t take away some people’s spirits, others didn’t have as many reasons to smile. “We live a lot on snow, but too much snow also hurts us. We have the restaurant in the tower that has been closed for four days and we don’t know when we will be able to get there”, confesses businessman Paulo Silva.
Civil Protection continues to warn of the risk of ice formation on the roads and, therefore, care must be takenhow to use snow chains.
Over the next few days, the white blanket should disappear. Heavy rain and a slight increase in temperatures are forecast.
