Lorini was found at his residence, where emergency teams tried to perform resuscitation maneuvers, without success. The athlete, who was a father of two, was pronounced dead at the scene. The family chose not to authorize an autopsy, and the exact cause of the health problem was not detailed.

Gym instructor, Andrea Lorini competed at a high level in Italian bodybuilding. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, he was considered one of the main names in the sport in the country, having won third place in the national championship in the up to 90 kilos category in 2017 and 2019.

Death of Italian bodybuilder

Lorini’s death is the third case of death involving famous bodybuilders recorded this year alone. In Brazil, Kevin Notário Nunes died at the age of 28, on January 5, as a result of a necrotizing bacterial infection, allegedly related to the use of supplements to gain muscle mass.

Arlindo de Souza, known as the “Brazilian Popeye” or “Anomalia”, died on January 14, aged 55, a victim of acute kidney failure, a condition possibly associated with prolonged use of mineral oil injections.

Experts warn that bodybuilding athletes have high mortality rates, often linked to extreme stress imposed on the body.

“The pursuit of extreme body transformation at any cost can pose significant health risks, particularly to the heart. Our findings challenge the idea that appearance alone is an indicator of health,” said doctor Marco Vecchiato, a researcher at the University of Padua, in Italy.
