The snow is gone, the black remains. The landscape in Coimbra has changed radically in the last 24 hours.
The snow in Serra do Açor has melted and once again exposed the mountains massacred by last summer’s fires.
The intense rain is now dragging earth and burnt debris into the river, despite the artisanal structures set up there to try to stop it.
Without plants, the soils are not in a position to retain the majority of water, a scenario that is repeated throughout the Serra do Açor.
