Franziska Brantnerová from the Greens calls on the German government to provide additional air defense systems to Ukraine in response to escalating Russian attacks. He also appeals for the supply of Taurus missiles as a signal of political support.
Franziska Brantner, co-chair of the German opposition Greens, called on the federal government on Sunday to provide Ukraine with more air defense systems in response to intensified Russian attacks. TASR informs about it based on the report of the DPA agency.
According to Brantner, Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want peace. She accused him of war crimes in connection with attacks on energy and heating infrastructure, which endanger families, the elderly and children during the winter season.
Higher defensive support
According to the opposition politician, Kyiv has the right to request additional support in the area of air defense, and the German government should, together with its European partners, explore the possibilities of strengthening it. At the same time, she called on Berlin to supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles with a range of more than 500 kilometers, which she said would be “an important signal of political support.”
Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz supported the supply of these weapons even when he was in the opposition, but since taking office in May last year, he has been more reserved about this issue in public, DPA reported.
Negotiations in the Emirates
Ukraine and Russia held direct talks on Friday and Saturday in the United Arab Emirates for the first time in several months. Both sides described them as constructive and announced the continuation of the talks in the course of the next week.
