Kim Kataguiri defends aggressive MBL: ‘Politics is war’ – 01/24/2026 – Politics

Young leadership of the (Movimento Brasil Livre), pivot of the protests for the impeachment of the former president () and that of São Paulo, turns 30 on January 28th wanting more.

Elected with 295,460 votes, the eighth most voted, Kim should switch to , linked to the MBL and chaired by , a pre-candidate for the Presidency. At 30 years old, qualified to run for a governor’s position, he does not rule out running for Palácio dos Bandeirantes this year instead of seeking re-election.

One thing is certain: Kim has no intention of lowering her tone. “I’m happy that one of the main points of criticism against us is our acidity, being incisive, aggressive”, he says. For those who can’t stand it, he recommends: “So, my friend, it’s better to stay at home, because politics is war.” Check out the main excerpts from the interview.

Mr. He began his career in a youth political movement. Now, reaching 30, what has changed in your way of doing politics? Were there any big lessons?
It’s different to have the perception from the outside that things are bad and then get to know Parliament. I didn’t have high expectations, but the reality is even worse. It is rooted in the Powers.

I always said that I liked big debates and was more concerned with what structures the country. That’s why my idea was to focus on the Legislature, but my experience has shown that the Executive has much more power to promote structural reforms. There was a maturity in that sense.

Does this mean that you are tired of the Legislature and intend to run for an Executive position this year?
I intend to run for the Executive. This year, we will still evaluate. It’s a decision that we will make in July, with the party, to find out whether I run for re-election or the Government.

How many deputies does Missão intend to elect?
It doesn’t have a goal. The worst possible scenario is to have five federal deputies, which is reasonable in the first election. This is what is needed to participate in the TV debates in 2028 and 2030. But I am very optimistic.

Who are you? preferred for the 2026 presidential elections: Lula, Flávio [Bolsonaro] or Tarcisio?
I’m not voting for any of these, I’m going to vote for Renan Santos.

And who would the MBL support in a second round without Renan Santos?
There is no such option, we do not work with this hypothesis.

Mr. wrote a book about the Supreme Court’s offensive in the legislative process. How do you evaluate the relationship between these Powers?
There is a structural issue: ours gives the Supreme Court many powers, more than it should. Practically all subjects, all public policies are in the Constitution. So if everything is there, everything is subject to constitutionality control.

Even so, our ministers manage to abuse it. The administration wanted to legislate on indigenous lands. All of this is the responsibility of the Legislature. And various surveys based on reviews. There has always been political confusion in Brazil, this has never been a problem. Now, when I insult a minister, it is an attack on the rule of law.

Mr. He is a legalist, he shows appreciation for the laws when he talks about the Supreme Court, but he has already spoken about the death penalty, life imprisonment and “tearing up the Constitution”.
Being a legalist does not mean that I hold that the current law is eternal. On the contrary, from the moment that our social pact has failed, that the Constitution of 88 practically failed in the provision of all public services and in the development of the country, we need to talk about a new Constitution, because ours was born old and contributed to the failure that we experience today in practically all sectors.

What is the guarantee that a new Constitution would not bring the same or new problems?
With international experience. We would not invent a text that never came into force. We would take the best of Constitutions around the world, create a lean Constitution. The most developed countries, as a rule, are those whose Constitution deals with the Constitution of the State, as the name suggests, and not with various public policies.

Being anti-revolutionary means not burning down the house so you have somewhere to live while the house is renovated. The point is that our house is already on fire. This social pact has failed. Either we radically change our direction, or we will no longer be considered an emerging country. It will just be a poor country with no prospects.

The MBL was notable for using confrontational tactics such as the use of memes. One example was the case of Queermuseu. Mr. Do you think MBL should be self-critical regarding these tools?
No, we have always been in an asymmetric war. We have always been weaker and had fewer resources than our adversaries. Our communication had to be — and will continue to be — disruptive in a way that allows us to face enemies much bigger than us: PTism, Bolsonarism, the Supreme Court. Regarding Queermuseu, I have zero regrets and zero criticism of any of MBL’s actions.

Renan himself was ordered to pay compensation to[o jornalista José Roberto] Burnier. There are other cases of intimidation. Mr. Don’t you see an approximation with the tactics of the so-called office of hate?
No, because we work with the truth, unlike parallel offices that spread fake news to destroy repurchases. You can accuse us of being too acidic for your taste, which was , for example. We didn’t publish anything false, he just considered that the meme we made to criticize his adherence to the federal government and the biased coverage against us, in favor of Dilma, at the time of the impeachment, had been too offensive. Now, there was no slander. We did not accuse him of any crime, nor did we invent anything about his personal life.

Mr. and Missão intend to use this same method in the next elections?
I’m happy that one of the main points against us is the acidity, the aggressiveness. If you can’t be [tão] As aggressive and acidic as the guy who is corrupt, who promotes underdevelopment and condemns an entire generation to be miserable, then, my friend, it’s better to stay at home, because politics is war. I already said [Winston] Churchill, she is no less violent, no less bloody. The difference is that in politics you can die several times. And we’ve died a few times, and we’ve killed a few times. When you put your face on social media publicly and take a stance on politics, you are in the arena. And in the arena you can be injured.
