“Americans expect federal agents to perform their duties lawfully and responsibly, and to work with, not against, state and local authorities to ensure public safety. That’s not what we’re seeing in Minnesota. In fact, the opposite is happening,” the former president said in an official statement
The former US president and former first lady, Barack and Michelle Obama, condemned the death of yet another American citizen by federal agents from the United States Immigration and Customs Service (ICE) in Minneapolis, stating that the situation was “tragic” and an affront to “American values”.
“Americans expect federal agents to perform their duties lawfully and responsibly, and to work with, not against, state and local authorities to ensure public safety. That’s not what we’re seeing in Minnesota. In fact, the opposite is happening,” Obama and Michelle warned in a statement.
The two further stated that the Trump administration “seems eager to escalate the situation,” noting that official explanations for the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good “are apparently directly contradicted by video evidence.”
The statement, which was released on X, was also republished by former Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, who is also a member of the local Democratic Party.
