The old Torre Palace Hotel building, located in the center of Brasília, It was imploded at 10:01 am this Sunday (25). The explosives were placed on the lower floors of the building, which collapsed within a few seconds. The large cloud of white dust that rose shortly after the operation almost completely dissipated about five minutes after the demolition.
Due to the risk of projection of debris and materials, in addition to the vibration of the ground itself due to the shock wave caused by the implosion and the intense noise, the population can follow the operation from around 300 meters away. Three sirens were heard a few minutes before the building collapsed, concluded to the applause of people who were on site.
The operation was coordinated by the Public Security Secretariat of the Federal District and the Undersecretariat of the Civil Defense System. The operational plan brought together security forces, emergency teams and traffic agencies in the federal capital. The entire defined perimeter was isolated. Shortly after the implosion, civil defense technicians were already at the site of the rubble.

Machines are working to remove the large mountain of rubble that now occupies the land where the Torre Palace Hotel once stood. The Federal District government’s forecast is that, over the next few hours, hotels located close to the rubble may be released. In total, three buildings were evacuated: Brasília Tower Hotel, LET’S Idea Brasília Hotel and Nobile Suítes Monumental.

Abandoned since 2013the building was occupied in October 2015 by around 150 people from the Popular Resistance Movement, which demanded housing policies in the Federal District. At the time, the Military Police of the Federal District reported that the building was already being invaded by drug users and was a recurring point of crime and drug trafficking.
After vacating, the building, which had already been condemned by the Civil Defense of the Federal District, was isolated. With 14 floors and 140 apartments, the building was located in the North Hotel Sector, an area considered noble in the federal capital, close to tourist attractions such as the TV Tower and the Mané Garrincha stadium.
