US and Israeli military chiefs meet amid tension with Iran

The commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), Admiral Brad Cooper, and the Chief of Staff of Israel, Eyal Zamir, met throughout Saturday (24), both in a private meeting and in another with more military personnel, according to the Israeli Army in a statement this Sunday (25).

“The CENTCOM commander and the chief of staff first held an extensive one-on-one meeting. This was followed by a meeting attended by additional commanders,” the military statement said.

Although the meeting took place at a time of tension in Israelwhich awaits a possible attack by Iran as retaliation if the United States bomb the islamic republicthe text does not provide details about the topics covered by the officers.

“This commitment serves as a further expression of the relationship between the commanders and constitutes an additional step towards strengthening the next strategic relationship between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the US Army”, highlighted the Israeli armed forces. “As well as strengthening defense cooperation between both nations”, they added.

In another statement, released on Saturday, the spokesman for the Israeli armed forces warned the population on the social network X that security guidelines in the country remain unchanged, calling for calm.

Also coming from the United States, the White House envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and American President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, arrived on Saturday.

In this case, the meeting dealt mainly with the Gaza Stripaddressing the Hamas disarmamentthe opening of the Rafah border crossing and efforts to recover the body of the last hostage in the enclave, Ran Gvili, according to the Israeli press. However, escalation with Iran was also expected to be addressed.
