Wrexham enters English play-offs after last-minute win

Supported by Hollywood stars, Wrexham moved up to the qualifying zone for the playoffs in the Championship, the second division of English, by scoring twice in stoppage time and beating, this Saturday (24), Queens Park Rangers 3-2 at Loftus Road.

Ollie Rathbone scored the winner in stoppage time with a long-range shot after Josh Windass had also leveled the match in the final minutes.

The unlikely victory took Wrexham up to sixth place with 44 points from 29 games, and although direct promotion seems distant, a place in the playoffs now looks possible.

and has since risen through the ranks of English football, attracting attention from around the world.

They remained in England’s fifth tier until 2023, but gained three promotions in three seasons and are now just one level below the Premier League.

Wrexham have struggled at times in the Championship, but have won five of their last seven league games and also knocked top-flight side Nottingham Forest out of the FA Cup.

“You saw how quickly we won the ball back and got back into the game (after the late equalizer). Sometimes you feel that as a team. Their player was sent off, I don’t know if that had an influence or not, but you felt like we were the team with the best chance of winning,” said coach Phil Parkinson.
