Acre launches digital platform to expand access to environmental information

Acre will benefit from mega-investment of R$123 million to restore indigenous lands

Acre will have a digital platform for participatory environmental transparency, created by law sanctioned this Monday (26), in the Official State Gazette (DOE). The initiative aims to gather and make available updated information on strategic environmental topics, such as environmental licenses, fires, forest management and conservation areas throughout the state.

The management of the platform will be the responsibility of the State Secretariat for the Environment (Sema), which may establish partnerships with universities and non-governmental organizations to develop and maintain the system. The proposal is to expand access to data and strengthen social control over environmental policies.

In addition to public consultation, the tool will allow the population to monitor, inspect and suggest actions related to the environmental area, encouraging society’s direct participation in the protection of natural resources.

To publicize and encourage the use of the platform, the State will also be able to promote events and mobilization actions, bringing the population closer to information and environmental debates. The law is already in force and was authored by state deputy Afonso Fernandes.
