Attack occurred on Sunday, in the city of Salamanca
An armed attack caused at least 11 deaths and 12 injuries on a football field in the state of Guanajuato (center), one of the most violent in Mexico, where organized criminal groups operate, local authorities reported.
The attack took place on Sunday, in the city of Salamanca, and authorities said they were looking for those responsible.
“The death of 11 people was confirmed, of which ten lost their lives at the scene and another while receiving medical care in a hospital center”, said the authorities, adding that “12 people were injured by gunshots and are currently receiving care”.
On Saturday night, four bags of human remains were abandoned in the same city.
The state of Guanajuato is an industrial hub home to car assembly plants and many tourist attractions, where several organized criminal groups compete for drug trafficking and fuel theft, according to analysts.
At the beginning of the year, the Government of President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the homicide rate in the country would reach the lowest level in a decade in 2025.
