Clinton calls on Americans to oppose Trump’s policies: The people in power lied to us!

In connection with the killing of two people by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis, former US Democratic President Bill Clinton called on the public on Sunday, to oppose the deportation policies of President Donald Trump’s administration. He called the events in the capital of the state of Minnesota unacceptable, world agencies reported.

  • Bill Clinton criticized the deadly raids by ICE agents in Minneapolis.
  • Clinton called on the public to oppose Trump’s deportation policy.
  • Two Americans, Renée Goodová and Alex Pretti, were killed.
  • ICE says the victim threatened agents with a gun or car.
  • Barack Obama called the events a “wake-up call for every American.”

“There are only a few moments in life when the decisions and actions we take will shape our history for years to come. This is one of them. If we give up our freedoms after 250 years, we may never get them back. It is up to all of us who believe in the promise of democracy to America to speak up and show that our country still belongs to us, the people,” Clinton, who served two terms in the White House from 1993-2000, said in a statement posted on social media.

Clinton went on to state that he would never have thought that the “horrible scenes” that happened in Minneapolis and other places would ever happen in the US.

“People, including children, were taken from their homes, workplaces and streets by masked federal agents. Peaceful demonstrators and citizens exercising their constitutional right to observe and document the work of the security forces were arrested, beaten, tear gassed, and worst of all, Renée Good and Alex Pretti were shot dead.,” Clinton wrote.

According to him, all this is unacceptable and should not have happened. “The people in power lied to us, told us not to believe what we saw with our own eyes, and pursued increasingly aggressive and antagonistic tactics, including thwarting investigations by local authorities.” Clinton stated.

ICE agents fatally shot in Minneapolis on Saturday 37-year-old American citizen Alex Pretti was shot as part of anti-immigration crackdowns, who worked at a Department of Veterans Affairs hospital there. Federal authorities say Pretti threatened the agents with a gun. Already on January 7, ICE agents in Minneapolis fatally wounded an American woman of the same age, Renée Good, who allegedly tried to hit one of them with a car.

The events in Minneapolis were also criticized on Sunday by another US ex-president, Barack Obama, who called them a “wake-up call for every American”.
