“Coffee with milk” from the Amazon: meeting of the Juruá and Môa rivers impresses in Acre

One of the most impressive natural scenes in Acre is in the Juruá Valley and has been attracting attention on social media: the meeting of the waters of the Juruá River with the Môa River, in Cruzeiro do Sul. The contrast between the colors of the two rivers forms a true spectacle of nature, which thrills residents, tourists and people from Acre who live outside the state.

The meeting takes place near the mouth of the Môa River, in the urban and riverside area of Cruzeiro do Sul, the second largest municipality in Acre. The Juruá River, one of the main rivers in the state and in the Western Amazon, originates in Peru and runs hundreds of kilometers until it cuts through Acre, being fundamental for transport, the economy and the life of riverside communities.

The Môa River originates in Serra do Divisor, in the extreme west of Acre, within the Serra do Divisor National Park. With clearer waters, it descends towards Cruzeiro do Sul until it flows into the Juruá River, creating the famous effect popularly known as “coffee with milk”, due to the difference in color between the two watercourses.

In addition to its scenic beauty, the place has strong cultural, environmental and tourist value. The meeting of the rivers symbolizes the natural wealth of the Acre Amazon and reinforces the potential of the Juruá Valley as an ecotourism destination, attracting visitors interested in natural landscapes, river tours and experiencing local culture.
