Fluffy and light donuts with icing. Everyone falls in love with them

Donuts with icing are an interesting and… a lighter dessert proposition for Fat Thursday. They differ from classic donuts because they are made of choux pastry, similar to puffs. Thanks to this after baking, they are fluffy, delicate and surprisingly light. Their interior remains soft and their structure remains aerated. The whole thing is complemented by a smooth icing with the addition of orange liqueur, which gives the cakes a pleasant, slightly citrus aroma and breaks the sweetness. This is a dessert that is easy to make and is also great outside of carnival. You can make puff pastry doughnuts for no special occasion, but for Fat Thursday they will be a nice change from traditional donuts and faworki.

Ingredients:

  • 200 g of wheat flour,
  • 220 ml of water,
  • 100 g of butter,
  • 5 eggs,
  • a spoon of sugar,
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

Frosting:

  • 200 g of powdered sugar,
  • 2 teaspoons of orange liqueur.

How to do it:

1. Heat the butter and water in a pot until the fat dissolves. Sift flour and salt into a bowl.

2. Increase the heat under the pot and bring everything to a boil. Remove it and immediately add the dry ingredients, stirring vigorously until all ingredients are combined.

3. Put the pot back on low heat and beat the mixture with a wooden spoon until a ball begins to form and leaves the edges. Remove the pot from the heat and set aside to cool for a few minutes.

4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well with a spoon after each egg, until a thick paste is formed. Finally, stir in the sugar. Transfer the dough to a pastry bag with a star tip. Press discs about 2.5 cm thick and approx. 10 cm in diameter onto a baking tray lined with baking paper. Maintain spaces between tires. You can trace the donut shape on baking paper to make the donuts perfectly even.

5. Put the donuts in an oven preheated to 200 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes, then lower the temperature to 190 degrees Celsius and continue baking for another 20-25 minutes. After baking, remove the dish from the oven and leave to cool.

6. Prepare the icing. Mix powdered sugar with orange liqueur until you obtain a uniform consistency without lumps. Brush the icing on top using a silicone brush.

7. Serve the donuts with icing cold after the icing has set. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days.
