GOL appoints Kandir as interim president of the board

The company informed, in a submission to the CVM (Securities Commission) on Sunday (25 January 2026), that the presidency of the company’s board of directors will be temporarily held by Antonio Kandir, who currently holds the vice-presidency of the body.

The decision was taken after , founder and president of the board, last Saturday (24 January). The businessman was 57 years old and was admitted to a hospital in São Paulo, where he was being treated for cancer.

Constantino founded the airline in 2001 and served as its 1st CEO. In 2007, under his command, GOL purchased the former aviation company Varig. The businessman directly commanded the company until 2012, when he left the position of executive president and became chairman of GOL’s board of directors, a position he held until his death.

The businessman was also one of the founders and had a seat on the board of directors of the ABRA group –holding which controls GOL and Avianca.

In a statement, GOL said that there will be no interruption in daily activities and that “the company’s operations, strategy and commitments remain unchanged”.

Constantino Júnior is remembered by the company as “a visionary leader whose integrity, discernment and unwavering commitment have shaped GOL during periods of transformation and growth.”. Here is the statement (PDF – 395 kB).
