The national president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Gilberto Kassab, declared support for the candidacy of Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) for the Presidency and wished “good luck” to pre-candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ).
In an interview with journalists, Kassab, who is also Secretary of Government and Institutional Relations for the government of São Paulo, stated that the PSD has a clear position regarding its intention to run for President in the 2026 elections.
“The PSD has a clear position. Everyone knows that, if governor Tarcísio is a candidate, the party will support him. If Tarcísio is not a candidate, we have two pre-candidates in the party, two excellent governors: that of Paraná, Ratinho Jr., and that of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite”, he highlighted.
Opportunity with security!
Behind the scenes, Kassab is tipped to be vice-governor or vice-president on a ticket headed by Tarcísio. Last week, the governor of São Paulo tried to dispel the rumor, saying he did not know if the PSD president wanted to run in the elections this year.
“I don’t know exactly what he will do, whether he intends to run or not. This will depend, obviously, because Kassab is a person who has done a great job, is a relevant national political leader, has helped the State of São Paulo. I am waiting for his next steps”, said Tarcísio.
At a Jewish community event this Sunday (25), reinforcing the idea that he will run for re-election to the government of São Paulo.

Visit to Bolsonaro
Next Thursday (29), Tarcísio should visit former president Jair Bolsonaro. Last week, the governor backed away from his visit on the 22nd — the gesture was seen as an attempt to prevent the agenda from becoming a political movement in direct support of Flávio Bolsonaro’s pre-candidacy for President.
On Friday (23), . “There’s no pressure at all. Because now we’re going to work hard for Flávio, there won’t be any problems with that. I think, over time, things will settle down. This is absolutely normal. I’m sure we’ll have a very competitive candidacy”, he explained.
Despite the governor’s justifications and evasions, Bolsonaro’s allies and big names on the right defend Tarcísio’s candidacy to the detriment of Flávio to face Lula (PT).
In an interview with SBT Newspastor Silas Malafaia stated that Tarcísio should be the right-wing name in the dispute for Palácio do Planalto. In the pastor’s assessment, Flávio’s candidacy “did not excite the right”. According to him, defeating Lula requires the formation of a front that brings together the center and the right.
