Former minister of () and one of his main political allies, Carlos Marun says he will look for him this week to propose that he run for President in October.
“This comes from a personal desire to have someone encourage me to vote in the election. Between Lula and Lula, I have no desire to vote for anyone”, says Marun, who held the Government Secretariat in 2017 and 2018, during the Temer administration. He was also a federal deputy for the MDB of Mato Grosso do Sul.
Marun says he does not intend to vote for Lula because he considers that the PT member has aggressive behavior against Temer and his group, a remnant of Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment in 2016. “Every two months he calls us coup plotters”, he says.
He also states that he is not a Bolsonarist and criticizes the fact that Flávio went to visit Israel at the beginning of his pre-campaign. Of Lebanese descent, the former minister has critical views of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
According to Marun, “it’s time for the center to take center stage again.” He praises Eduardo Leite (RS), both from the PSD, but says that the centrist flag suits the MDB better.
Marun says that Temer will be, at the very least, a relevant candidate to try to break the polarization between Lulistas and Bolsonaristas. “President Temer’s candidacy will be consistent, whether he wins or not is another matter. At the very least, he will play a great role”, says the former minister.
According to Marun, Temer has not yet commented on running for President, but he says he will try to convince his friend. “I see his eyes shining when he talks about politics, and he is in full physical and mental health. It’s worth a try,” he says.
The former minister also states that he will talk to the president of the MDB, Baleia Rossi, about the project. It would be a way of uniting the party, which has Lulista and Bolsonarista wings.
