President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has shown dissatisfaction with the performance of Minister Dias Toffoli in reporting on the investigation that investigates irregularities at Banco Master, according to reports made to Folha de S.Paulo by Planalto assistants.
The investigation revealed that the PT member is closely following the progress of the investigation and, in recent days, he began to signal that he does not intend to take on the public defense of the magistrate in light of the criticism surrounding the case.
According to the report, in conversations with close assistants, Lula even mentioned the possibility of Toffoli leaving the court, either by resignation or retirement. The speeches would have occurred in an outburst tone, amid the assessment that the episode increases the negative exposure of the STF and generates political noise for the government.
Opportunity with security!
Despite the criticism, members of Palácio do Planalto believe that it is unlikely that the president will formalize any request for the minister to step down from the rapporteur or position.
Even so, Lula indicated to interlocutors that he intends to return to discussing the issue directly with Toffoli, resuming a conversation that had already taken place at the end of last year. At the time, Lula would have defended that all investigations be carried out to the end and sought guarantees that the court would maintain this commitment, even with secrecy in force.
Among the points that most bothered the president are the high level of secrecy imposed on the process and reports that revealed relationships between the minister’s family members and financial structures linked to Banco Master. Behind the scenes, Lula expressed concern about the perception that the investigation could lose momentum or end without accountability.

The investigation, according to internal evaluations reported to Sheethas the potential to reach political figures from different fields, including opposition parties and allies of the government itself. The controller of Banco Master, Daniel Vorcaro, maintains relationships with names from the center and also with PT leaders in Bahia, which reinforces the sensitivity of the case in the political environment.
Since then, new information has come to light and increased pressure on Toffoli. The minister, in turn, has told interlocutors that he sees no reason to declare himself prevented or suspected, maintaining that episodes such as a trip on a private plane with a lawyer linked to the case and family business do not compromise his impartiality.
