PF director says expert had access to evidence of operations on Banco Master

The director general of the Federal Police (PF), Andrei Rodrigues, stated this Monday, in a press interview, that the corporation’s experts have already had access to the evidence obtained in the second phase of Operation Compliance Zero, which investigates suspected irregularities involving Banco Master and the issuance of credit securities.

The case is being processed at the Federal Supreme Court (STF), under the report of Minister Dias Toffoli, who limited the PF’s access to the evidence collected in the operation.

— Our experts have already had access. The instruction continues regularly, there is no harm. (…) The material is already being extracted — he stated.

PF director says expert had access to evidence of operations on Banco Master

The minister determined, on the 14th, that all material in Operation Compliance Zero be “sealed” and “safeguarded” on the premises of the STF. The decision was taken during the second phase of the operation, which affected the bank’s owner, Daniel Vorcaro, and his family. GLOBO showed at the time that the decision could create a risk of losing evidence relevant to the investigation, according to people with access to the investigation of the case.

Toffoli defined the four PF experts who could have access to evidence following monitoring by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), responsible for the material.

Rodrigues stated that the PF has autonomy. However, asked specifically about Minister Toffoli’s latest decisions, which also ordered the police to confront those involved in the investigation before even collecting statements, the head of the PF avoided criticizing and said only that he would not comment on “operational details of investigations that are still ongoing”.

Regarding the statements being taken this Monday, the director general only said that “the police authority that presides over the investigation will ask its questions, record, as there was already a schedule that was adjusted to be done”, without elaborating.

Answers in the files

In addition to limiting the PF’s access to evidence, Toffoli criticized the PF in the decisions in which it authorized the second phase of Compliance Zero. At the time, he stated that “possible frustration” in complying with the measures “results from the exclusive inertia of the Federal Police”, given the “express and deliberate non-compliance” with their decision. This is because the PF did not carry out operations immediately to confirm some target addresses.

This Monday, Andrei avoided talking about the minister and only said that he had already responded formally in the files.

— I will not comment on the process that is under secrecy. (…) I formally presented the arguments we had there for acting in this process, this is public data — he said.
