The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), stated this Sunday, 25th, in a speech during the Act in Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust, that “we cannot allow Brazil to be lost in hatred”.
During his speech, the governor resumed questioning the president of the Israeli Federation of the State of São Paulo, Célia Parnes, who asked during her speech whether society is prepared to identify the signs of a new Holocaust.
According to the governor, at that time “the leaders didn’t know it. Today, perhaps, we are not (prepared)”. “Today, sometimes, we don’t realize what is happening. We deny it”, continued the governor when recalling the attack by the terrorist group Hamas against Israel in October 2023.

The president of the Israeli Confederation of Brazil (Conib), Cláudio Lottenberg, began his speech by addressing the São Paulo governor, saying that he recorded each of the times that Tarcísio was present at Jewish community events.
When talking about the international scenario, he stated that there is clarity about those responsible for the spread of extremism. “We know very well who oppresses, who finances, who arms and who benefits from these big businesses,” he said.
Lottenberg criticized what he called the politics of narratives and the relativization of extremism. “We witnessed the politics of narratives, which replaced debate based on facts. Even so, we continue to relativize extremism as if it were just a divergence of an ideological nature”, he stated.
Lottenberg also stated that combating anti-Semitism should not be associated with partisan disputes. “This is a mission that is neither right-wing nor left-wing. It is a mission of a society that believes in democracy, human dignity and respect”, he concluded.
