In France, they detained two British citizens who, based on their statements on social networks, are suspected of inciting hatred and participating in a group whose goal was to prepare violent actions against migrants. This was stated by the local authorities for the AFP agency on Monday, reports TASR.
A pair of apparently far-right activists aged 35 and 53 were arrested on Sunday evening near the French city of Calais. Both men were placed in custody, the prosecutor’s office in the Pas-de-Calais department said.
Assembly prohibited
Britons have arrived in France to take part in a rally called by British far-right activist Daniel Thomas on social media in the British port of Dover and on the northern coast of France.
The assembly, which Thomas called Overlord, apparently in reference to the Allied operation of the same name from World War II, was banned in advance by the French authorities. Despite this, Thomas published videos and photos on Saturday, according to AFP, which he said were taken that day on French beaches. He is on them with a dozen other men, all dressed in dark clothing and waving British flags.
Suspicious activity on YouTube
Sources from the police, according to AFP, reported that the detained Britons on the YouTube platform broadcast live from the French coast content that could incite hatred.
