After another fatal intervention by agents of the Immigration Office, Trump sends Tom Homan to Minnesota, who will conduct operations directly under his supervision. Videos from the crime scene call into question the propriety of using brutal violence.
After another fatal incident involving the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, President Donald Trump is sending Tom Homan, who is responsible for border protection in his administration, to Minnesota on Monday. TASR informs about it according to the Reuters agency.
“Tonight I am sending Tom Homan to Minnesota. He has not been involved in the area, but he knows and likes many of the people there. Tom is tough but fair and will report directly to me,” the US president wrote on his Truth social network. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt added that Homan will lead ICE operations in Minnesota.
The incident with Alex Pretti
ICE agents fatally shot 37-year-old Alex Pretti, a US citizen who worked at a Department of Veterans Affairs hospital there, in Minneapolis on Saturday. Federal authorities say Pretti threatened the agents with a gun. However, according to Reuters, in the published images, it can be seen that he had a mobile phone in his hand, which he used to film the agents. Earlier, he tried to help a woman who was thrown to the ground by agents.
Already on January 7, ICE agents in Minneapolis fatally wounded American Renée Good, who allegedly tried to hit one of them with a car. That claim is disputed by videos from the scene, which show Good’s vehicle evading the agent. Both federal and state police manuals state: “if it is possible to move out of the vehicle’s path, the shooting is unjustified.”
Trump is considering withdrawing ICE
On Sunday, Trump told the Wall Street Journal that his administration was reviewing the latest shooting and hinted that he would pull ICE out of Minneapolis. “At some point we will leave. We did a phenomenal job there,” he declared.
