“According to the findings so far, the driver who was driving a Renault car on Sunday shortly before 6:30 p.m. on the I/16 road in the direction from Šaca to the city of Košice, did not give way to a pedestrian who entered an uncontrolled, properly marked pedestrian crossing and hit the pedestrian,” she specified that the pedestrian was crossing the road towards the bus stop.
Paramedics took the man to the hospital in a life-threatening condition, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. No other persons were injured. The driver was subjected to a breath test on the spot with a negative result. His driver’s license was confiscated and he was banned from further driving.
“Whether the poor pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol or other addictive substances will be determined by the biological material taken at the hospital,” she added. The police once again call on drivers and pedestrians to be extremely careful and respect the rules of the road, especially near pedestrian crossings.
