Fog may occur throughout Slovakia. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) has therefore issued a warning of the first level, which is valid from Monday evening until Tuesday (January 27) at 12:00 p.m. He informed about it on his website.
„Locally, the occurrence of fog with visibility of 50 to 200 meters is expected. Reduced visibility is a potential hazard for traffic activities. The occurrence of fog with the above visibility is common in the given time of year and area, but may cause minor damage“, the meteorologists stated.
At the same time, they also issued hydrological warnings against an ice flood. The second level warning applies to the district of Zvolen, the first level of warning applies to the districts of Detva, Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Veľký Krtíš, Krupina, Lučenec, Poltár, Levice, Rimavská Sobota, Revúca, Rožňava, Žarnovica, Banská Štiavnica, Žiar nad Hronom, Bardejov, Svidník, Stropkov, Medzilaborce, Snina and Humenné.
“Water courses are affected in several places by persistent ice phenomena (ice near the shore, freezing of the stream, movement of ice and water flowing over the ice), so the rare occurrence of ice floods is assumed. Ice barriers can be created due to the loosening of ice (flow of ice, water flowing over the ice) with the subsequent swelling of water levels on streams with the possibility of reaching and exceeding water levels corresponding to the degree of flood activity,” explained SHMÚ.
