Most of the ingredients for savory waffles can be found among the basic products always present in the kitchen. So you can prepare them whenever you run out of ideas for dinner or dinner. To prepare waffle dough you need::
- approx. 170 g of wheat flour type 500 or 650,
- 2/3 cup of milk,
- 1 larger egg,
- 4 tablespoons of olive oil
- a flat teaspoon of baking powder,
- a pinch of salt,
- 2 full tablespoons of grated, hard ripening cheese, e.g. Parmesan.
Ingredients for the sauce:
- tomato puree,
- Garlic,
- Oregano,
- olive oil,
- salt and sugar.
Favorite accessories:
- grated yellow cheese or mozzarella,
- cold cuts,
- fresh basil,
- olives,
- cherry tomatoes,
- champignons.
How to prepare savory waffles?
- In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients for the dough: sifted flour, salt, baking powder.
- Add the mixed wet ingredients to the dry ingredients – milk, grated cheese, egg, olive oil. Mix everything until you obtain a smooth, thick mass.
- Bake the waffles in a well-heated waffle iron for about 4 minutes.
- Meanwhile, prepare the sauce. Heat the olive oil in a pot and fry the chopped or pressed garlic. When golden brown, add tomato puree, salt, sugar and oregano. Cook over low heat until the sauce reduces.
- Spread the baked waffles with sauce and sprinkle with grated cheese. Place chopped additions on it, e.g. mushrooms, cold meat, tomatoes and olives. Bake the prepared waffles in the oven for approx. 5-10 minutes at a temperature of approx. 200 degrees Celsius.
You can serve the waffles with additional garlic sauce and fresh basil.
