Number of murders decreased last year, but Brazil continues to top this unwanted list.

Throughout 2025, there were 80 transgender and transvestite people were murdered in Brazil.

It is a decrease compared to the 122 deaths from the previous year, but Brazil continues to lead this unwanted list. For 18 years, Brazil has been at the top of this ranking.

Last year, Ceará e Minas Gerais were the states with the most murders (8 each). The Region North East continues to accumulate the most crimes: 38 murders, followed by the Southeast with 17, the Central-West with 12, the North with seven and the South with six.

Most victims are women, above all young people between 18 and 35 years old, and essentially people black e brown.

The numbers, shared by , were revealed by the National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals (Antra).

Bruna Benevides, president of Antra, warns that this is a consequence of an entire system which makes oppression against trans people natural.

These are not isolated deaths. They reveal a population exposed to extreme violence from a very early age, permeated by social exclusion, racism, institutional abandonment and continuous psychological suffering”, according to Bruna.
