Former US President Joe Biden on the X social network on Tuesday criticized the administration of his successor for the conduct of federal immigration agents in the city of Minneapoliswhere two American citizens were shot in a few days, reports TASR.
“What happened in Minneapolis this month is a betrayal of our core American values. We are not a nation that shoots its citizens in the street. We are not a nation that allows our citizens to be subjected to brutal violence for exercising their constitutional rights,” Biden wrote. According to him, violence and terror have no place in American society, especially if the government perpetrates it against its own citizens.
On Saturday, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents 37-year-old American citizen Alex Pretti was fatally shot in Minneapoliswho worked at a Department of Veterans Affairs hospital there. Federal authorities say that he threatened the agents with a gun. However, in the published images, it can be seen that he had a mobile phone in his hand, which he used to film the agents. Even before that, he tried to help a woman who was thrown to the ground by the agents.
ICE agents also on January 7th in the same city, the American Renée Good was fatally shot, who was allegedly trying to hit one of them with a car. This claim by federal authorities is disputed by videos from the crime scene, which show as Good’s vehicle avoids the agent and he still fires three shots at her.
Biden called for a proper and transparent investigation into both fatal incidents and urged Americans to speak out against the government’s actions. The Democratic predecessor of Donald Trump joined other former heads of state, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, who criticized the immigration authorities in Minnesota.
