Bolsonaro’s brother tries to withdraw the prize from Mega, but discovers the prize has been redeemed

Businessman Renato Bolsonaro, younger brother of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), was one of the 308 thousand winners of the Mega da Virada court, as the bets that match four of the six draws are called.

However, last Tuesday (20), when trying to redeem the R$216 prize at a lottery in Miracatu, in the interior of São Paulo, Renato discovered that the amount had already been withdrawn.

“I found it strange, to say the least. It shows a huge vulnerability in the Caixa system”, said the former president’s brother.

When contacted, Caixa Econômica Federal reported that “it does not provide information about the winners nor does it disclose data relating to the redemption of prizes”. “Lottery prizes are only withdrawn upon presentation of the original betting receipt,” stated the bank.

According to Caixa, prizes with a net value of up to R$1,700 can be claimed at any lottery outlet. Redemption is carried out upon presentation of proof of the bet. Prizes above this amount can only be collected at public bank branches.

According to Renato, the Bolsonaro family organizes prize pools in special Mega-Sena draws, such as Mega da Virada, or when the prize is accumulated. The bets continued with odds allocated to the former president even after his imprisonment. Bolsonaro’s younger brother is the one who organizes the bets, distributed between Renato, Jair, a brother-in-law and a former advisor to the ex-president.

Bolsonaro’s brother is PL’s bet in SP

As shown by the EstadãoRenato is a PL bet for the election of federal deputies in São Paulo. The party fears the shrinking of its bench after losing its main vote-pullers in the 2022 elections, such as Carla Zambelli, Eduardo Bolsonaro, Ricardo Salles and Guilherme Derrite.

The PL anticipated Renato’s pre-campaign and appointed an exclusive marketer to accompany him. The acronym’s expectations, however, are in line with Bolsonaro’s brother’s electoral record: of the eight elections he contested, Renato won only one, for councilor in Praia Grande, on the coast of São Paulo, almost three decades ago.

In 2024, Renato ran for mayor of Registro, in the interior of São Paulo. He declared assets of R$3.2 million to the Electoral Court and lost the dispute to Samuel, from the PSD, by 18,100 votes to 9,700.
