Brazilian detained by ICE is transferred and loses contact with family, says wife

US Army veteran Hannah Silveira, and wife of Brazilian Matheus Silveira, arrested by US immigration agents (ICE) during a visa interview, stated that lost communication with him this Monday (26).

Immigration agents claim that “they can’t locate him” after her husband was allegedly transferred between detention centers.

“O I just can’t find my husband. My husband was granted voluntary departure from the United States, and a judge ruled that he could board a commercial flight, a regular flight leaving San Diego, to be transferred to Brazil, where would we start our new life”, explained Hannah in a post on social media.

However, when accessing the application used to communicate with inmates, Hannah stated that her husband’s name was no longer in the system. She further reported that she contacted the Otay Mesa Detention Center to question the inability to communicate, but was told that staff “don’t know where he is.”

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that, through the Consulate General in Los Angeles and the Honorary Consulate in San Diego, provides assistance to Brazilians and their families.

Matheus was arrested on November 24, 2025 during the final interview to obtain the green card (permanent residence) at a US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office in San Diego, California.
