Fans reported on social media that they were unable to buy tickets at the physical box office due to scalpers.
Federal deputy Erika Hilton (Psol-SP) and state deputy Guilherme Cortez (PSOL-SP) said they will call the authorities to investigate the action of scalpers in the pre-sale of singer Harry Styles’ show on Monday (26). The British artist will perform two shows at the MorumBIS Stadium, in São Paulo, on July 17th and 18th.
The pre-sale opened on Monday was exclusive to Santander bank customers who have cards in the Infinite, American Express Premium and Black categories. It opened at 11am on the Ticketmaster website, the company responsible for sales, and at 12pm at the physical box office at Shopping SP Market, in the South Zone of São Paulo. Shortly after the opening, fans used social media to denounce the alleged action of scalpers at the location.
At around 12:15 pm, a fan portal claimed to be in the first place in the in-person queue and was unable to buy tickets because they were already sold out. About an hour later, the same profile released a video of a man allegedly holding at least a dozen physical tickets to the show.
After the reports, fans came together to denounce the action. The hashtags #TicketmasterUmaFraude, #NãoAoCambista and #FãsMerecemRespeito were among the most used terms on X (formerly Twitter).
With the movement, Erika Hilton released a letter calling on the National Consumer Support Service (Senacon) and Procon, requesting an “investigation into the irregular sell-out and evidence of scalpers” in ticket sales.
Guilherme Cortez stated that, in addition to Procon, he would contact the Public Ministry and the Public Security Secretariat of São Paulo. “Since 2023 I have been denouncing the ticket mafia that exists in Brazil, there is an industry profiting from the extortion of fans’ dreams, which involves scalpers, producers and ticket agents”, stated the politician.
Estadão contacted Ticketmaster to obtain a statement on the allegations, but has not received any response so far. The space remains open.
