Ministers are leaving their posts on the Esplanada to run for office, but this does not mean an absence from Luiz Inácio da Silva’s (PT) campaign for re-election. On the contrary, it should be a reinforcement.
Half of the ministerial team leaves and two dozen canvassers enter the field working in various states, most of them candidates for governor or the Senate. It’s hard to believe that they won’t use their influence in the departments they commanded.
It’s not an illusion. The use of the public machine is authorized by Lula himself, whose abuse runs free and rampant under the omission of the . Each official act has been a rally, with explicit reference to the electorate’s choices prohibited.
He could act ex officio, but until now he has opted for the comfort of inaction. The opposition is not interested in presenting challenges because their gubernatorial candidates use the same infringing method and, thus, all become partners in the transgression.
It is interesting to note how the proximity of the election causes people to cool down, the target of proposals for extinction that are very common in the electoral off-season. The complaint is always the same: allowing a second term makes presidents, governors and mayors use and abuse their power while holding office.
The amendment that instituted re-election imposes limitations that, although respected in the beginning, over time were ignored and are now dead letters. Nobody cares anymore about the legal demarcation for the start of campaigns, they just need to call themselves pre-candidates. Lula doesn’t even have that care.
The embarrassment of disobeying the requirement that candidates for renewal of mandates separate administrative activities from electoral actions is also over.
Today we adhere to the motto of everything together and mixed. Under the complacent gaze of the Electoral Court, which loses authority to regain control of order in the environment.
