Case happened on December 1, 2025 while the victim, Evelyn de Souza Saraiva, was working
According to the corporation, the police were carrying out preventive patrols in the Jardim Campo Limpo region, also in the north of São Paulo, when they received information that Bruno Lopes Fernandes Barreto, 36 years old, was nearby. The man was located on Rua São José Operário, but resisted the approach and tried to escape on foot. The PM reported that, during the escape attempt, the suspect discarded a weapon.
The police managed to catch up with him and arrested him. Barreto was taken to the 73rd Police District, in Jaçanã, responsible for investigating the case.
On December 1, 2025, Evelyn de Souza Saraiva, aged 38, was shot six times by his ex-partner, Barreto, while working in the north of São Paulo. At the time, the crime was recorded by surveillance cameras.
In the images, the woman appears talking to the suspect in the pastry where he works, on Ushikichi Kamiya Street. It is not possible to clearly hear the content of the dialogue. After dropping a can of beer, Barreto waits a few seconds before pulling out two weapons and shoot at least five times against the victim. When Evelyn is already on the ground, he says: “You thought I was joking, right?” The suspect then flees the scene.
The victim was hit in the back and lower limbs and taken to Hospital das Clínicas by the PM’s Águia 12 helicopter. At the time, the corporation reported that Evelyn was conscious and that her health condition was stable at the time of rescue.
Record number of femicides
Brazil recorded a new record of femicides in 2025, even with December data still incomplete, according to a report from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. There were 1,470 cases in the period, the equivalent of four victims per day.
The number, although partial, already exceeds the 1,464 occurrences recorded in 2024. The balance does not yet include the femicides that occurred in December in Alagoas, Paraíba, Pernambuco and São Paulo.
Data compiled by the Ministry of Justice indicate that, since 2015, when femicide became classified by law, there have been 13,448 crimes of this type in Brazil. São Paulo leads the ranking in the period, with 1,774 cases, followed by Minas Gerais (1,641) and Rio Grande do Sul (1,019).
