The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunescriticized the decision of the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) regarding the motorcycle taxi service in the city of São Paulo. According to the São Paulo president, it was a “serious error” by Alexandre de Moraes and the STF needs to respect the autonomy of municipalities a little more. The statement was made this Monday (26), during participation in the program Right to the Point, from Jovem Pan.

“With all due respect, but I see a very serious mistake by Alexandre de Moraes, especially because he was secretary here in São Paulo and wrote articles, gave interviews and brought data saying that this type of transport could not happen in São Paulo”, he said. According to Nunes, at the time, data was presented that showed that 1 person per day died while traveling by motorcycle, if there had been transport, it would have been four. In 2024, there were 483 people killed by motorcycle accidents in São Paulo.

According to Nunes, the rejection of motorcycle taxi work in São Paulo was carried out after a survey carried out by councilors elected in the capital of São Paulo from March to December 2025, listening to experts, and only one person was able to overturn it with the work of several others.

On Tuesday (20), . According to the entity, the rules would be a “prohibition disguised as regulation”, as they created conditions such as the obligation to register the vehicle as “rental” (red plate) which, in practice, would make the activity unfeasible.

Nunes criticized Moraes’ decision on registration, as, according to him, it is necessary because it concerns people’s lives. “. As I can’t register. As I can’t do it. They won’t transport pizza, they will transport people”, he said.

Despite the disagreements over motorcycle taxis in the capital of São Paulo, Nunes highlighted the achievements achieved with the Blue Belt. “We have reduced the number of accidents where there is a Blue Belt by 47%, but amazingly, for each one I do, I need authorization from the federal government”, he declared. According to him, he has been waiting for authorization for more than a year to be able to increase the number of Blue Belts in São Paulo. “These are things that are difficult to understand, we need to respect the autonomy of the municipalities a little more”.
