Relatives of ministers of the (Supreme Federal Court) have already acted in 1,925 cases in the court and in the (Superior Court of Justice) as lawyers, according to children, siblings, spouses and ex-spouses of the judges.
According to the portal, at least 14 first-degree relatives have or have had a record of acting in court. The total number may be even higher, because it does not take into account cases under secrecy. Today, these lawyers work in at least 382 cases being processed in the courts.
The involvement of relatives of Supreme Court ministers in court proceedings is not illegal, and most of them were already lawyers before the magistrates took office as ministers. Ministers declared themselves impeded when there is direct action in cases.
When asked by UOL, the relatives denied having benefited from the relationship with the ministers. The magistrates stated that they always follow the rules of declaring themselves impeded when necessary.
According to the survey, the one who leads the list of cases is the son of minister Luiz Fux, lawyer Rodrigo Fux. He has 49 cases in the STF, of which only 1 is still in progress, and acts in 500 in the STJ. Of these, 129 are still pending before the high court.
Next comes Valeska Zanin Martins, wife of Cristiano Zanin, with 47 in the STF (8 in progress) and 92 in the STJ (14 in progress). She and her husband were partners. , the year in which he was nominated for the Supreme Court by ().
In addition to them, Roberta Maria Rangel, former partner of ; lawyer Sálvio Dino, brother of ; ’s wife, Viviane Barci de Moraes, as well as ’s daughter, Melina Fachin.
Added to these are Francisco Schertel Mendes, son of ; Guiomar Feitosa, Gilmar’s ex-wife; Karine Nunes Marques, sister of , and Moraes’ daughter, Giuliana Barci de Moraes.
The survey also shows lawyers without cases at the STF, but who worked at the STJ: Laura Schertel Mendes, Gilmar’s daughter; Marianna Fux, daughter of minister Luiz Fux; and Caroline Zanin Martins; Zanin’s daughter.
No close relatives of or were identified.
