Tarcísio praises Nikolas’ walk – 01/26/2026 – Politics

The governor of , (Republicans), praised this Monday (26) the action promoted by the federal deputy (PL-MG) against the convictions of the defendants on January 8, 2023.

The statement was given during a press conference in Santos (SP), following an agenda on housing and urban revitalization projects in Baixada Santista.

Asked about the mobilization, Tarcísio said that the act expresses a “broad outcry from society” and works as a thermometer of popular dissatisfaction in the face of what he classified as a succession of crises, especially of a moral nature.

“We talk a lot about the fiscal crisis, which is contracted and will hinder Brazil’s growth, but worse than the fiscal crisis is the moral crisis. And we need to take care of this, because it will ruin the institutions,” said the governor.

“We will continue to fight for this because it is something that will be brought by a person who has a health problem, has a comorbidity, is over 70 years old”, stated Tarcísio, referring to the former president (PL), sentenced to 27 years in prison for having led a coup plot.

According to Tarcísio, the mobilization does not hinder the relationship between Bolsonarism and the STF (Supreme Federal Court). He stated that he saw no reason to block demonstrations and said that the movement also reflects a demand for justice, in addition to the debate on the situation of prisoners involved in the acts of January 8th.

The governor called the PL deputy “great leadership” and “great promise”. He also said that the walk was a “courageous” act, as it started with little participation and gained support along the way.

“A great movement led by Nikolas, who is truly a phenomenon, he is a great leader. He is an anointed boy, I can say that, I am much older than him, 29 years old, with this ability to communicate and mobilize.”

The event began on Monday in Paracatu (MG) and ended on Sunday (26), in Brasília. An electrical discharge hit protesters, leaving at least eight people hospitalized, according to authorities in the Federal District.
