Women’s Corinthians test their strength in the Champions Cup – 01/27/2026 – Sport

In South American football in the last ten years, there has not been a team as dominant as the Corinthians women’s team. The “Brabas”, as the black and white players are called, have won the tournaments that are currently part of the sport’s calendar on the continent multiple times.

There were setbacks, of course, but they have built an impressive record since the reactivation of the women’s black and white team in 2016. There were, among other titles, seven from the Brazilian Championship (2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025), three from the Brazilian Super Cup (2022, 2023 and 2024) and six from the World Cup. Libertadores (2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025).

However, there was no championship in the FIFA (International Football Federation) schedule in which Corinthians could face some of the main powers in women’s football, which have strong leagues in Europe and the United States. Now, there is the Champions Cup.

The format is similar to the men’s Intercontinental Cup, with a representative from each continental confederation. In the current dispute, Wuhan Jiangda, from China, has already eliminated Auckland United, from New Zealand, and was eliminated by AS FAR, from Morocco.

AS FAR thus reached the final phase, which will take place in London, England. Their opponent in the semi-finals will be English Arsenal, European champions. On the other side of the bracket, Corinthians will face Gotham FC, from the United States, champions of Central and North America.

“We’ve been dreaming about this moment for a long time,” said Ana Vitória, who is a newcomer and also an old member of the alvinegro women’s project.

The midfielder, now 25 years old, played for the team in 2017 and 2018, before building a career in Europe, playing for Benfica, Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético de Madrid. He has just returned, aware that black and white success in South America generates curiosity among athletes who work on the Old Continent.

“Many players ask. And I show them what Corinthians is. I’m a Corinthian fan, I’ve always been very proud of what the club has done for women’s football in Brazil. It’s a club that puts 40,000 people in the arena. I always respond with great pride”, she stated.

Much of this success was built under the technical direction of Arthur Elias, who left the team in 2023 to take over the Brazilian team. He is in London to watch the Champions Cup and observe several of his former teammates – and some current ones, as they are frequently called up to the national team.

With Lucas Piccinato, chosen to succeed Elias, the routine of achievements was maintained, although there were difficult defeats. In the decision of the last Campeonato Paulista, for example, in December 2025, the black and white team, missing, beat Palmeiras 5-1 in the first game – they won the second 1-0 and were runner-up.

It is not at their best that Corinthians reaches the Champions Cup. But, to participate in the FIFA event, the club looked for reinforcements, such as the aforementioned Ana Vitória, Venezuelan Dayna Rodríguez and Colombians Paola García and Gisela Robledo.

In the event of a victory over Gotham FC at the Gtech Community Stadium, the team will play the final on Sunday (1st), at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal’s home, with a capacity for more than 60 thousand spectators. The tournament will distribute US$2.3 million (R$12.1 million) to the champion, US$1 million (R$5.3 million) to the runner-up and US$200,000 (R$1.1 million) to those eliminated in the semifinals.
