Amazon announced this Wednesday (28) the elimination of around 16 thousand jobs in different areas of the company, as part of a new organizational adjustment aimed at reducing hierarchical layers and internal bureaucracy.
In a message sent to employees, Amazon’s senior vice president of People, Experience and Technology, Beth Galetti, stated that the layoffs result from a process initiated in October to simplify the company’s structure, increase team autonomy and speed up decision-making. According to her, while some areas completed the changes last year, other teams only completed the reviews now, which led to the cuts announced today.
According to the statement published on Amazon’s news website, most affected employees in the United States will have up to 90 days to seek internal replacement, with deadlines varying in other countries depending on local requirements. For those who do not find a new position or choose to leave the company, Amazon said it will offer transition packages, including severance, outplacement services and health benefits, where applicable.
Opportunity with security!
Galetti highlighted that, despite the reductions, the company will continue hiring and investing in areas considered strategic for future growth. The executive also stated that the group does not plan to announce broad cuts on a recurring basis, although each team continues to evaluate its structure, operational capacity and speed of innovation in a global environment that it classified as rapidly changing.
