Caixa Geral de Aposentações (CGA) will now require a new security procedure for all users of its digital portal, in a process that already has defined dates and practical consequences for State workers and pensioners. From April 1st, anyone who does not complete this step will no longer be able to access the information available on the platform.
The change affects the CGA Portal, also known as CGA Direta, and definitively introduces two-factor authentication as a mandatory condition for access, aligning this service with other public portals already subject to similar rules.
According to the Economy and Finance website, reinforced authentication will be mandatory for all users from April 1, 2026, without exceptions. Until then, there is an adaptation period, but only for certain profiles.
According to the same source, since December 2025, natural persons, such as active workers or pensioners, are already obliged to use this mechanism whenever they enter the portal’s reserved area.
Moratorium only for collective entities
The possibility of postponing membership applies exclusively to legal entities, such as employers, that benefit from a moratorium until March 31, 2026. The website writes that, during this period, membership is optional.
After this period ends, two-factor authentication will become a transversal requirement for all users who wish to access CGA Direta, says the same source.
How the new access system works
The process maintains an already known first step. The user continues to enter the username and respective access key, as they did until now. The website adds that this continues to be the first authentication factor.
The difference appears next, with the introduction of a second factor: a unique code sent by SMS to the user’s cell phone, which will have to be entered to complete access, explains the website.
No cell phone, no access
The CGA clarifies that this second factor is essential and that, without access to the associated cell phone, it will not be possible to access the portal. According to the same source, this requirement aims to reinforce the protection of personal and financial data.
The model follows a similar logic to that already applied in other digital public services, such as the Social Security Portal and the Finance Portal, where identical systems are in force.
What is CGA Direta for anyway?
CGA Direta is the digital platform through which Caixa Geral de Aposentações beneficiaries can deal with multiple matters without traveling in person. According to , the portal concentrates a wide range of services.
Among the available features are consulting pension receipts, obtaining income statements for IRS purposes, accessing pension simulators, sending applications, requests for clarification and updating personal data.
