The season for the Corinthians women’s team begins this Wednesday morning (28), in London, England. At the Gtech Community Stadium, the Brabas will face Gotham FC, from the United States, in the semifinals of the , a tournament similar to the annual Club World Cup in men’s football.

Named Sky Blue FC, the team was founded in 2007 and is based in the New York metropolitan region, competing in the NSWL, the main league of North American women’s football and one of the strongest in the world.
As of 2021, the club changed its name and adopted the city’s historic nickname, in clear reference to the Batman comics, one of the greatest and most famous heroes on the planet.
When the name was changed to Gotham FC, the club explained it this way: “We are making this important change due to our rapid growth and evolution. Our new name reflects our expanding regional reach and captures the tireless determination, boundless energy and incredible diversity of the communities we represent.”
On the field, Gotham City FC won the NWSL title on two occasions, in 2023 and 2025, confirming the team’s recent great strength in American territory. In 2009, the team was also champion of the WPS, predecessor of the NWSL, still under the name Sky Blue FC.
The team’s big title, which gave them a place in the , came in 2024, when they won the Concacaf Champions League, against Tigres, from Mexico.
Coached by Juan Carlos Amorós, who has had great success within women’s football in North America, since November 2022, Gotham FC has an old friend from Fiel Torcida: striker Gabi Portilho.
For Corinthians, the player played 162 games, scored 29 goals, made 49 assists and won an impressive 15 titles. In addition to the former Corinthians, another Brazilian who plays for Gotham is right-back Bruninha.
