Server gone, game gone: EU Commission must address “Stop Killing Games” petition


Modern server infrastructures are actually a great invention. They form the backbone of many useful cloud services that make our lives easier or provide entertainment. And they are also essential for video games that you play together or against each other online. But this also comes with a crucial catch. Running your business costs money, and that has consequences. If income from sales of the game or any microtransactions decreases, server operations become a loss-making business. And because game studios are usually for-profit companies, at some point the lights go out.
