The British prime minister joked about the sunglasses worn by the French president in recent days, who responded with a humorous nod to the movie Top Gun.
Good morning with French and Top Gun sunglasses by Starmer
“Bonjour!” said Starmer, wearing a pair of aviator sunglasses, in a short video he posted to his TikTok account last night. The video was taken during the recording of a podcast, The Political Party, which Starmer appeared on, at a cinema in the British capital.
The video is accompanied by the caption “Talk to me, Goose”, a line from the movie Top Gun starring Hollywood star Tom Cruise, which the British Prime Minister intended for the French president.

In the film, Gus is the co-pilot and best friend of Maverick, played by Tom Cruise. Maverick often tells him “Talk to me, Gus” as he pilots a fighter jet.
Macron’s answer to British humor
That was enough for Macron to respond to Starmer’s ‘Talk to me, Gus’.
In the comments, the French president responded with a “Sure” and then Starmer posted a photo that looks like a Top Gun movie poster: But without Tom Cruise, but with the two leaders appearing in military uniform, wearing sunglasses.
Above them: two fighter jets and the French and British flags.
The sunglasses worn by Macron due to a minor eye condition, notably during a speech in Davos on January 20, have since gone viral and sparked a flood of memes on social media.
He drew derision from US President Donald Trump, who suggested the French president was trying to “play the tough guy” by wearing the glasses.
