Tension in France: Lecornu passed the sixth no-confidence vote and pushed through the budget!

The government of French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu on Tuesday she survived two more vote of no confidence after the prime minister used his constitutional powers to push the national budget through parliament without a vote. Of the 577 members of the National Assembly present, 267 supported the proposal in the first vote, and 140 in the second. According to the DPA agency, the success of none of the proposals was expected because the government was supported by socialists. The Prime Minister of Lecorn and his cabinet in recent weeks they have already faced six votes of no confidencemost recently last week.

However, the budget proposal for 2026 has still not been formally approved. After review in the Senate, it will go back to the National Assembly for final approval. In order to enforce it, Lecornu will have to again use his power to push through the proposal without a vote according to Article 49.3 of the Constitutionwhich, according to the AFP agency, will probably trigger further votes of no confidence.
