The agents who shot Pretti were taken off duty

Two federal agents from Minneapolis have been placed off duty following the fatal incident with Alex Pretti. The circumstances of the case cast doubt on the published footage and caused public outrage.

The two federal agents who shot and killed US citizen Alex Pretti in Minneapolis on January 24 have been placed off duty. This was reported by the AFP agency on Wednesday, which is referred to by TASR.

  • Two federal agents were suspended after the shooting in Minneapolis.
  • Alex Pretti was fatally shot by agents during the operation.
  • Analyzes of the footage claim that Pretti was not holding a gun, but a cellphone.
  • Trump called for an investigation into Pretti’s death in Minneapolis.
  • In January, Renée Good was also shot and killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis.

“Both agents are currently suspended. This is standard procedure,” a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) spokesman told AFP in a statement.

Pretti’s death raises questions

On Saturday, CBP agents in Minneapolis fatally shot Pretti, 37, who worked at a Department of Veterans Affairs hospital there. Federal authorities say he threatened the agents with a gun. However, according to the analyzes of several American media, in the published images, it can be seen that he did not have a weapon in his hand, but a mobile phone, and he was filming the agents.

On Monday, Trump called for an investigation into Pretti’s death and suggested he would “slightly soften” the administration’s crackdown on immigrants in Minnesota.

Another incident in Minneapolis

Already on January 7, an agent of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis shot three times at the American Renée Good, who died shortly after as a result of her injuries. She allegedly tried to hit him with a car. That claim is disputed by videos from the crime scene, which show Good avoiding the agent in her car.
