Ukrainian resistance claims sabotage of Russian military factory 1,300 km from the border

The BUMMASH factory is strategic to the Kremlin’s war effort, being responsible for the production of dual-use goods, as well as steel and metallurgical products essential for the manufacture of weapons and heavy equipment.

This Tuesday, the armed resistance movement “Atesh” claimed responsibility for sabotage against an electrical substation in the Republic of Udmurtia, in the interior of Russia. The action will have interrupted the power supply to the “BUMMASH” factory, a vital infrastructure for the Russian military-industrial complex.

According to a statement released by the group on the Telegram platform, an operator damaged equipment at the substation located north of the city of Izhevsk, the regional capital. The attack caused a power cut that partially paralyzed the operations of the metallurgical unit.

The BUMMASH factory is strategic for the Kremlin’s war effort, being responsible for the production of dual-use goods, which can be used for civil and military purposes, as well as steel and metallurgical products essential for the manufacture of weapons and heavy equipment used in the invasion of Ukraine.

Although the exact extent of the damage or the severity of the electrical supply interruptions have not been confirmed by independent sources, this incident marks a significant change in the radius of action of the resistance groups.

The “Atesh” movement has claimed frequent attacks on Russian territory and in occupied areas of Ukraine, usually focusing on railway nodes, locomotives and defense factories. However, most of these actions occur in regions closer to the front line.

The sabotage in Udmurtia represents a deep attack on the Russian rear. Izhevsk is located more than 1,300 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, demonstrating the group’s operational capacity much higher than that recorded in previous incidents.

Recently, the group has intensified its focus on electrical substations that power key components of the Russian war machine, in an attempt to erode Moscow’s military logistics from within.
