Wall Street shows mixed performance after Fed rate decision

American stocks showed a mixed performance this Wednesday afternoon (28), after the Federal Reserve announced the maintenance of interest rates between 3.5% and 3.75% in the United States, in line with Wall Street expectations.

At around 5 pm, Brasília time, the Dow Jones fell 0.05%, to 48,979 points. The Nasdaq technology index gained 0.25%, to 23,877 points. And the S&P 500 appreciated 0.02%, at 6,979 points.

“Uncertainty about the economic outlook remains elevated,” the Fed said in a statement, also citing the central bank’s role in controlling inflation and keeping unemployment low.

After , the dollar index rose 0.5%, extending the morning’s gains. US Treasury bond yields also rose slightly.

“We expected this to be a fairly uneventful Fed meeting,” said Jay Hatfield, CEO of Infrastructure Capital Advisors.

Hatfield pointed out that it was notable that the Fed’s statement mentioned solid economic growth and a stabilized unemployment rate, better than at the last meeting in December.
