Flamengo faces São Paulo on Wednesday night (28/1), in the first round of the Campeonato Brasileirão. For the clash at Morumbis, Arrascaeta was listed, but started on the bench.
Why is Arrascaeta on the bench against São Paulo?
Arrascaeta was left out of Flamengo’s first games of the season due to the technical committee’s planning. The objective was to make the Uruguayan 100% physically fit for his Brasileirão debut.
The midfielder received special treatment after an exhausting 2025, where the player played the year with the most games in his career: 64. Even with the need to anticipate the return of the main squad in the Campeonato Carioca, the player remained on the sidelines in the classics against Vasco and Fluminense.
The idea is that he arrives in the best version in the decision of the Brazilian Super Cup, this Sunday, against Corinthians, at the Mané Garrincha stadium, in Brasília (DF).
