Georg Hackl is one of Germany’s most successful Olympic athletes. The tobogganing legend won gold in 1992, 1994 and 1998 and silver in 1988 and 2002, three times ahead of Austria’s current association president Markus Prock. After years of success in Germany, he has been a trainer for starting and sledding technology in the Austrian team since 2022. He’s quitting after this season. He wants to remain involved in tobogganing, but in what capacity is still unclear. Before that, he will be taking part in the Olympics for the eleventh time in Cortina in February. The 59-year-old tells STANDARD his secret to success and why the world used to be simpler.
