Moraes refuses Valdemar’s visit to Bolsonaro

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), refused this Thursday (29) the request from Jair Bolsonaro’s defense that the president of the PL, Valdemar da Costa Neto, be authorized to visit him in prison. The decision is based on the fact that they respond to investigations into the same facts, involving alleged criminal organization e violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law.

In the decision, Moraes stated that the prohibition of direct contact between those being investigated and those convicted in related procedures is necessary to avoid risks to ongoing investigations. In addition to Valdemar, Senator Magno Malta also had the visit request denied. According to the minister, the Military Police reported that the senator previously tried to enter the unit without authorization, improperly using his parliamentary prerogatives, which created risks to the security of the location.

Despite the vetoes against Valdemar and Malta, the decision brought flexibility in the former president’s visiting regime. Moraes responded to the request to transfer the days visiting from Thursdays to Saturdays, with the aim of not disrupting the battalion’s administrative flow during the week. Furthermore, it was authorized simultaneous entry of up to two visitors at a time.

The minister approved a visit schedule for February, allowing the entry of federal deputies Gilberto Gomes da Silva (PL) and Hélio Fernando Barbosa Lopes (PL), senator Wilder Pedro de Morais (PL) and the former secretary of Land Affairs of Brazil, Luiz Antonio Nabhan Garcia.

Religious assistance

Another change was the authorization for the inclusion of Father Paulo M. Silva in the religious assistance list. He will be able to visit Bolsonaro alternately with the evangelical leaders who already frequented the place (Bishop Robson Rodovalho and Pastor Thiago Manzon).

Finally, the STF allowed the former president to carry out hiking on the football field or on the unit’s track, under escortto preserve physical health, as recommended by doctors.
