PF arrests man suspected of being part of an international terrorist organization

The Federal Police (PF) arrested, this Thursday morning (29), in the interior of São Paulo, a man suspected of join a terrorist organization of international scope. Authorities reached him through an investigation carried out in conjunction with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

In a note, the PF reported that the man was setting up a vest with explosives that he would use in a suicide attack. The act, he added, would happen in Brazil – the corporation did not provide further details about the location.

The police also carried out personal and home search warrants and must analyze data and information that the suspect maintains and maintained on electronic devices, such as cell phones and computers. Brazilian legislation, including the Marco Civil da Internet, establishes that, when there is a request for access of this type, made by the authorities, telecommunications companies are obliged to release it.

This data is called telematics. The companies, telephone and internet operators used by those investigated, for example, are obliged to share stored records, both content and call history, with time, duration and numbers contacted. In the case of social networks and messaging services, such as WhatsApp, it is possible to rescue even conversations deleted by users.

Authorized by the 3rd Federal Court of Bauru, the investigation also assumes a preventive nature, as highlighted by the PF in a note, as it is capable of anticipating other similar articulations, “which undermine public security and social order.”
