Police save family swept away by flood in Suzano (SP)

An stranded family was rescued by military police during flooding caused by strong floods on Avenida Governador Mário Covas, at the intersection with Rua Gato Cinzento, in Suzano, on Wednesday afternoon (28).

Teams from the 32nd Metropolitan Military Police Battalion were carrying out radio patrol when they found the family’s vehicle being dragged by the current. In total, five people were trapped in the car.

The storm raised the level of the Una River, which runs through part of the municipality, causing flooding and the isolation of the family there.

With the car almost submerged, the team set up a safety system with a rope, tied to the police officers’ waist and attached to a fixed point, to begin the rescue.

The couple and three children were removed from the vehicle and rescued safely, with no injuries reported.

After the rescue, support was dispensed, and the family remained in a condominium close to the site, awaiting conditions to return home.
